If you're ever in Reno (and like cars), the National Automobile Museum is a place you must visit. Just East of downtown Reno, the museum hosts hundreds of very old and rare cars
and is dedicated to preserving automobiles as part of the American experience.

In the museum's "changing exhibits" gallery, Phil Davis and I were fortunate to be able to lend part of our collections to a temporary exhibit about model cars: 2001 A Model Car Odyssey. I got here during the very last week of the exhibit. This gallery changes (roughly) every six months.

To the left: The Model Car Odyssey contains unbuilt original models, collector cards, professionally-built model cars, and a detailed exhibit from Revell-Monogram on how model cars are made.

73 facts about the GTO
Ever-looking for that advertising edge, marketing Jedi-master Jim Wangers saw a golden opportunity to tie the GTO to the late-60s pop music and TV sensation, the Monkees. He commissioned famed automotive car customizer Dean Jeffries to build an outlandish GTO "touring car." The "Monkeemobile" was the star of key action scenes in the show. In 1967, MPC made a model of the Monkeemobile. The Monkeemobile kit has been reissued twice since then, most recently in 2000.
