The GTO, like all Pontiacs after 1958, were "Wide Track" cars. The 1959 Pontiacs were 64 inches wide--five inches wider than the '58 models. The Wide Track design offered handling improvements to go along with the tougher look and also gave Pontiac class-leading hip room. Another dramatic styling change in '59 was the "Split Grille" look that has been a Pontiac staple ever since. |
