It's a Wide-Track Thing

I made it to Reno, Nevada that night with no problems. Unless you count pumping a lot of gas a problem!
Lots of twisting and winding roads on I-80 as you go through the Tahoe area. I'm remembering funny things about this car as I drive:

  • The radio antenna is in the windshield
  • The "cigar" light is too big for my phone adapter
  • The dimmer is that old silver cylinder switch on the floor
  • You put gas in from behind the rear license plate

To the left: This car, like all Pontiacs of the era, is a "Wide Track". I remember those TV commercials as a kid: "It's a wide-tracking Pon-ti-ac..........it's the breakaway car........this yeeeeeaaaaarrrrr".

73 facts about the GTO
The GTO, like all Pontiacs after 1958, were "Wide Track" cars. The 1959 Pontiacs were 64 inches wide--five inches wider than the '58 models. The Wide Track design offered handling improvements to go along with the tougher look and also gave Pontiac class-leading hip room. Another dramatic styling change in '59 was the "Split Grille" look that has been a Pontiac staple ever since.
