Vacaville is a town of over 70,000 people in-between San Francisco and Sacramento. Jim Theobald is the 2nd owner of this car. He bought it from his wife's aunt's estate in 1989. In those 12 years, he's driven it about 2000 miles. I bought the car for $8,500 plus another $600 to get a complete hose-belt-tune-up-carburetor adjustment-oil change, etc. I have over 2,500 miles to go and don't want to take any chances.

The car is not "mint" but all original and in very good condition. The interior is in great shape. There is a crease on the fender by the GTO logo, a few small dings and dabs of retouched paint, the A/C is not functioning, and the clock is broken.

To the left: Jim told me some nice stories about the car. It was built in Freemont, CA and sold in Los Angeles. He gave me all sorts of documentation about it, original pics the day it was brought home in 1973, and data on the car from the Pontiac historical society. The car has 54,365 original miles.

73 facts about 1973
Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in a tennis match billed as "The Battle of the Sexes" in the Houston Astrodome. The match was set up after Riggs claimed that even an over-the-hill man could beat any championship class woman. King defeated Riggs in straight sets in the five-set match which was televised nationally.

73 facts about the GTO
Royal Pontiac, in Royal Oak, Michigan, was the Mecca dealership of performance Pontiacs in the 60s. Specializing in performance packages that made the GTO even more muscular, they sold over a thousand "Royal Bobcat" packages a year. A "GTO Bobcat" package consisted of:
  • Performance centrifugal advance curve kits
  • Super-thin (0.022) head gaskets
  • Blocked heat-riser gaskets
  • High-performance Champion (J-10) spark plugs
  • Special carburetor jets
  • Hydraulic lifter restrict kit

So what did all that do to the already fast stock GTO? It added 5mph in the quarter-mile--enough to beat the other guy! Royal owner Ace Wilson also took his agency into NHRA competition to promote sales and image. They also had match races around the country with identical "Royal Bobcat" GTOs. The "Royal mystery driver", donned in a full Tiger suit and tiger head, raced against a person selected from the audience! See the diecast models
