Orange Hauler
Wild Customized Pickup Rod

  • Original year: 1966
  • Company: Monogram
  • Scale: 1/24
  • Designer: Darryl Starbird

This beautiful, stylish and modern customized pickup rod will dash all past conceptions of the one-ton truck. The Orange Hauler was designed and built expressly for Monogram by famed customizer Darryl Starbird as a prototype for the model kit. The handsomely sculptured body is based on a 1962 Chevy one-ton truck cab greatly modified and is built over a 1955 Chevy frame. The top is made of Lucite plastic and has an all-metal rear section where it is hinged for electronic push-button operation. The modern interior contains two sculptured contour sets separated by a console. The engine is a modified 1956 Buick loaded with chrome and topped by a hand made air cleaner on a four barrel carb. The go-power is transmitted through a 1956 Dynaflow transmission. Wide whitewall slicks transfer the power to the road.

Dave's comments:

1966 was a hot year for Darryl Starbird models. I bet this compact sucker really "hauled" ass! Makes me wonder where the original car is today. All these 1966 Starbird kits have this distinctive box art of people admiring the cars. And dig that bouffant hairdo on the classic 60s babe-mom.
