Pizza Wagon (kitbash) | ||
---|---|---|---|
Built by: Harley Richards in Croydon, Surrey, England This is probably Showrod heresy but I've never been a huge fan of the Paddy Wagon. Before I get told to go and play with the military crowd as penance, I should point out that I loved the look TD created for the original box art, but the kit just misses the overall stance by being way too high at the back end and, in the later issues at least, having that godawful "brass" plating on the brightwork. The original plan was to just correct those shortcomings but I saw a rendition of something similar to this in Scale Auto, had a conversation with Dan and, well, one thing led to another, you know how it goes. When the dust finally settled every panel had been modified, an engine had been yanked out of a Hangman, the back end had been lowered (of course), the front end was pulled apart and replaced with something that might work in full scale (the one that comes in the kit certainly wouldn't), Fujimi wires were added, the rear fenders were widened and raised to accommodate the new monster tyres, the front fenders were binned, seams were removed, the grille was reworked to remove the "Fuzz" logo, a load of chrome was added, I scratchbuilt the pizza air filter, the pepper grinder gear lever and the old skool phone, and the ever-wonderful Dkal Dan surpassed (no, make that really surpassed) himself with the decals. In fact, put this alongside a stock Paddy Wagon and there's actually not a lot that looks the same any more which, in my humble opinion, is no bad thing! |
