Li'l Baja Bandito (kitbash)

Built by: Steve Hammann in Carlinville, Illinois

In our last meeting we discussed building that holy grail from south of the border L'il Baja Bandito.

I started by forming the body in two halves front and back from .040 sheet plastic and joining them with a splint across the seam inside the body. I then added the top by laminating 6 layers of .020 sheet plastic for ease of bending and getting enough thickness to let me round over the edges.

Front wheels are from a Polar Lights Snap kit and the back are from a TD Roarin' Rail. Wheelie bars are scratch built and the wheels are from a Revell T/F (small front wheels) kit.

The hotrod surf board is scratch built from .040 Sheet plastic. The Briggs & Stratton is another total scratch build and features 4 valves and fuel injection running a 50/50 mix of Nitro and Alky.

The paint on both movers is Testors Hot Rod Orange with an overcoat of Boyd's Roadstar Orange and a light misting of Red Metalflake. Side decals on the van are painted on by taping off the basic square and painting a black base coat then using a pattern cut from thin cardboard I lightly sprayed the patterns over the the black and topped it all off with Testors High Gloss Clear. Windows are made from gift wrap ribbon glued on with clear window glue.

#5 of Frawgs original 6, L'il TJ Taxi is next up on this magical mystery tour.
